Borat Hits US Box Office
November 5th, 2006
A new film titled Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan has recently accounted for 73% of all advanced ticket sales on Fandango.com.
The comedy film stars Sacha Baron Cohen, who is a British comedian playing a boorish, anti-Semitic alter ego that used to frequent his cable television show called Da Ali G Show. Borat is a faux documentary of the character on a road trip across the US encountering various US citizens in a comical manner. Both the Borat character and Ali G were successful hits on Da Ali G show and it looks like the move is being received well, too.
The movie opened on Friday, cost $18 million to make and could gross as much as $15 million it’s first weekend according to industry experts, which is impressive for a film that opened in less than 1,000 theaters.
