November 3rd, 2006

The Hips Don’t Lie as Shakira dominates the 7th Latin Grammy ceremonies in New York on Thursday.
The belly-dancing songstress won awards for album of the year and best female pop vocal album for Fijacion Oral Vol. 1. Shakira also won song and record of the year for “La Tortura” which features her duet with Alejandro Sanz.
During one of her acceptance speeches, she decided to express her support on a subject very close to her heart. Shakira discussed her support of immigrants who work in the U.S. illegally. She added that she hoped they would “soon be acknowledged by the government with the visa for their dreams, which they deserve.”
The Latin Grammys were held at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Performers at the ceremony included Ricky Martin, Andrea Bocelli and Shakira who stole the show with her red-hot rendition of “La Tortura”.
