No, that&#039;s not true: I actually understand it, and I see it as an example of the widespread idiocy of the mass media / mass public.

I agree 100% with Smith&#039;s comment. It&#039;s a nuanced one: he IS NOT SAYING that Hitler was a good person. He is simply saying that, from an internal perspective, Hitler undoubtedly didn&#039;t see his own actions as terribly evil or (what is more unfortunate for history) morally wrong.

I imagine that this is a true statement. This idea that every man, from the best to the worst, thinks himself (or herself) to be doing good, is an ancient one.

Of course, it flies over the head of most people today. People who take Smith&#039;s statement and turn it into a &quot;Hitler was good&quot; Smith says in interview!
