American Idol 80’s night with the girls
March 5th, 2008

This is the last night the American Idol guys and gals will be segregated for season 7 and next week we will already be down to the final twelve. Tonight we see the girls performing for 80’s night just like the guys did last week; well, maybe almost as good as the guys did last week.

Asia’h Epperson - American Idol Asia’h Epperson started out 80’s night with Whitney Houston song and showed off an impressive voice and her usual energetic self. This girl just has a great and genuine attitude and does well against the current competition, but her real challenge will start next week when they meet up with the guys.
Kady Malloy - American Idol Kady said that she herself was surprised to see that she made it another week but we thought she would stick around. She did a much softer song than we’ve hear from her before but still showed a lack a personality. We have to agree with Simon on this one with the “robot” comment and find it hard to relate to Kady Malloy when she’s performing, but I’d be happy to relate to her in any other way possible.
Amanda Overmyer - Americal Idol What’s with this girl? A previous show she talked about a car accident she caused and this time how she managed to burn down a pool. And of course we can’t forget about the DUIs and nude photos, but we think Amanda Overmyer is taking the tough-girl attitude a little too far. She’s a nurse and obviously a talented individual so it’s time to get out from behind the ugly hair and attitude and really show us what she’s all about.
Carly Smithson - American Idol The American Idol staff does a good job of somehow magically making the contestants a little more attractive each week as they move forward… even the less-than-attractive ones. Carly Smithson wasn’t quite as difficult to look at this week but unfortunately her singing hasn’t improved as much. Carly needs to go soon.
Kristy Lee Cook Kristy Lee Cook brought me straight to memories of awkward slow dancing in junior high. She sang a great impression of Faithfully by Journey but didn’t really seem to add anything of her own to the song. Fortunately shes still got her looks which will almost certainly get her into the next round.
Ramiele Malubay - American Idol Each time I hear Ramiele Malubay sing I’m still mostly just surprised. She’s only something like 4-foot-10, and her voice when she talks sounds like she’s a tiny little person but her singing voice is bigger than most people in the competition. We think Ramiele is going to do well this season but could stand to have a little of Danny Noriega’s attitude on stage.
Brooke White Brook White looked the part of 80’s night almost as much as she did 70’s night. She did a popular Pat Benatar song that was very calm and relaxing but not very memorable. Brook is no doubt a good performer but just doesn’t strike us as the next American Idol. Maybe the next Western-American Idol.
Syesha Mercado - American Idol Syesha Mercado seems to have more experience with stage presence compared to other contestants this year and last, and it’s serving her well. Her raw good looks certainly don’t hurt either but we don’t think that’s all that will carry Syesha into next week. She will do well if she makes it on AI or not, but we’re guessing she’s going to make it close to the end of this competition.

Two of these girls are going to get voted off at the end of this week so we’re down to 6 guys and 6 girls on the same show. The guys performances really seem to be outshining the girls this season and any guys that make it through this week might get a chance at some easier competition next week as the girls’ numbers will likely dwindle.

POPTHERAPY PREDICTS: Making a prediction of which girls are going home this week is tough since although there are a few that stand out, a few of them we thought were also equally poor. Although we’d like to see Carly and Amanda tomorrow night, our picks this week go with Kady Malloy and Brook White to get voted off this week. Tomorrow night we’ll see how close we were with our guesses and find out who will fall into the final twelve that essentially “make it” and will be included in the American Idol tours for the next year.

American Idol guys - 80’s night
March 4th, 2008

American Idol tonight hosted 80’s night for the 8 remaining guys in the competition, so lets get right down to business.

Luke Menard - American Idol From what I understand from the girls I know this Luke Menard guy is somewhat attractive or something. I’m sure he is but why the WHAM! song? Are things just too easy for Luke and he’s just making it more of a competition? Well, the singing was OK and the song choice in our opinion just stank. The 80’s were not that bad.
David Archuleta - American Idol David Archuleta is maintaining his status as everyone’s favorite little kid that can really sing. He did another slow song this week and showed off is mad pianist skills for the first part of the song, but next time he needs to speed things up again. The odds of him bringing out another moving performance like he did last week is pretty slim so lets see some fun, David!
Danny Noriega - American Idol I have to say that Danny Noriega’s attitude really bothered me early on but he’s been growing on me and a lot of other American Idol fans. He’s got a decent voice and a tremendous attitude, but he adds a lot of character and fun to the show. I can’t believe I’m saying this but I hope he sticks around for a while and I think he will.
David Hernandez - American Idol David Hernandez really does have a voice. He didn’t put out quite the performance that he did last week and I was glad to see he wasn’t wearing some type of hoodie but it was nevertheless a strong performance, even if it was a Celine Dion song. Unfortunately we don’t think David has got what it takes to make it many more weeks.
Michael Johns - American Idol Dude, don’t they have the commercials in Australia about never letting them see you sweat? Michael Johns looked like he just finished a Tae Bo class after his INXS performance. His performance was actually pretty darn good and Michael is a very solid competitor for this season.
David Cook - American Idol Wow. David Cook just did a great job this week. Even Simon managed to muster up some compliments for this guy. The Lionel Richie song was a surprising choice but the guy pulled it off so we have to give David a thumbs up. Nice job.
Jason Castro - American Idol ‘Half baked’ is what comes to mind when I see Jason Castro talk. I live in the Portland, OR area and Jason would feel right at home out here. Like David Cook, Jason’s performance was also very impressive this week. He managed to drop the guitar and pried some compliments out of Simon as well. Another slower song and very well done. This weeks voting decision is looking tough for the guys.
Chikezie - American Idol Chikezie is the potential famous super star going by one name like Madonna… or McLovin. Chikezie also sang a slower song this week and did an OK job. We thought he was much more fun last week and does a little better with more upbeat music. This was so-so for us this week and definitely was not a standout this time.
