American Idol Final - David Vs. David
May 14th, 2008

David Cook and David Archuleta go head to head in American Idol FinalI know our American Idol coverage has been lacking a little as of late, but in all fairness once Kristy Lee Cook was voted off my interest was cut to a fraction. Fortunately Syesha Mercado made the ranks into the final three and on looks alone she should be the winner, but there is some singing involved and Syesha was the one voted off of American Idol tonight.

Who does that leave? Well, if you’ve been watching the show it’s obvious, but for the rest of you, we can look forward to the two David’s going head to head next week on to decide who becomes the winner and American Idol of Fox’s season 7 competition. (more…)

Paula Abdul Drunk on American Idol?
April 30th, 2008

Paula Abdul Drunk on American Idol?
I’d be drinking too if I had to sit through all those idiots. They all sound like they’re singing through a cat’s ass.

I try not to watch the show myself, but apparently the kooky judge gave a critique for a performance that had yet to take place last night. I’d say that shows clearly that the show is scripted. It also shows that she may have been hitting the sauce.

Kristy Lee Cook Voted Off of American Idol
April 16th, 2008

Kristy Lee Cook Voted off of American Idol Season 6It’s the voting episode of week six and coincidentally America’s votes bring the remaining American Idol contestants down to the last six as one gets voted off tonight. Throughout a series of performances and another puppet-themed Ford plug by the performers Ryan Seacrest weeded Carly Smithson, Jason Castro and Syesha Mercado into a small group of their own and another group consisting of David Cook, Kristy Lee Cook and Brook White across the stage. David Archuleta was held out to last since it would likely give away which group was the bottom three.

After some uncomfortable shuffling it ended up being Syesha, Brook and Kristi Lee as the three with the fewest votes for the week. I feel like none of these contestants should be in the bottom three overall, but it seems like a lot of voters go off solely the last performance which helps make a little sense of this weeks numbers. Also we need to remember that these people aren’t voted off, but are just not voted on as much as the others.

Unfortunately this time it was Kristy Lee Cooks time to go. Kristy had a shaky time earlier in the season but was really making a comeback in her performances each week but it just didn’t turn out to be enough to keep her going. I guess we knew it was going to happen eventually, but we’ll certainly miss seeing Kristy on the stage each week.

American Idol Top 7 Perform
April 16th, 2008

American Idol Top 7 PerformWell, it looks like we made it to the final 7 this year without having any type of embarrassment “vote for the worst” contestants on the stage. The loss of Michael Johns last week was a surprising result for everyone and actually added a little excitement to the show since this time it wasn’t as predictable as we were beginning to believe. Michael Johns voted off in American Idol shocker
April 10th, 2008

Michael Johns voted off of American IdolWhoa. I don’t think many people saw this one coming. Tonight on American Idol the Australian native Michael Johns was the one voted off out of the eight remaining contestants. This announcement comes as a surprise to many American Idol fans as Michael was not a regular in the bottom three contestants during the previous weeks.

This result is a classic example of what it means when Simon continues to say that performances are not memorable. Michael Johns is a good performer and we’re pretty comfortable with saying that he is better than at least a couple of the remaining seven contestants, but he plays it safe too often and doesn’t stand out from the crowd to get votes. Keep in mind that the performers are not actually voted off, but are just not voted on as much as the others. Michael did not necessarily do poorly, but also did nothing to warrant enough votes this week to stay in the competition this week. (more…)

American Idol top 8 bust out some inspiration
April 8th, 2008

American Idol top 8 contestantsThis week we have the top 8 American Idol contestants performing after the loss of Ramiele Malubay in last weeks voting. I guess they want to do something for everyone during the season and this episode sports some “inspirational songs” for the theme, which goes along with the extra special three-episode week.

Today we have the regular but “inspirational” performances which makes the show a little painful for us here, and on Thursday we’ll have the usual voting episode. But, for all of you hardcore AI fans tomorrow brings a special, extra-long 2.5 hour “Idol Gives Back” episode which goes along with all of the inspiration being belted out tonight. (more…)

Ramiele Malubay gets the boot from American Idol
April 3rd, 2008

Ramiele Malubay voted off of American Idol Season 7, top 9Ramiele Malubay was the one that came up short with votes last night out of the nine remaining American Idol contestants for Season 7. She was joined in the bottom three by two other female performers - Kristy Lee Cook and Brooke White.

We had said early in the season when the guys and girls were split that once they get put together the female side of this competition would suffer the most blows early on and it looks like it’s happening. It was nice to see Jason Castro pulled things together and kept himself out of the bottom three. We really enjoy his carefree, stoner attitude and he brings the show back down to earth a little. I’m also glad to see that although Kristy was again in the bottom three, she didn’t get let go this time and I still have a good reason to watch and not just listen to the show. (more…)

American Idol Top 9 this week with Dolly
April 1st, 2008

American Idol top 9 perform

This weeks American Idol is down to nine after the unfortunate loss of easy-Chikezie in last weeks run. The episode happens to fall on April fools day and can’t go off without an opening April fools joke from Ryan Seacrest which we’ll spare you. (You can thank me later.) Dolly Parton graced the contestants this week and hence they all sang one of Dolly’s 3,000 songs that she’s written over the years, which proved to be easier for some than others. I really had no idea Dolly had quite that many songs but I have to admit that many of them sound an awful lot alike to me. (more…)

Amanda Overmyer voted off of American Idol
March 19th, 2008

Tonight the American Idol season 7 crew is brought down to the final 10 that will go on tour as one more is voted off the show. As usual Ryan Seacrest singled out the three with the fewest votes and then announced the one leaving today.

Carly Smithson was the first singled out as one of the bottom three and was clearly upset with the decision but didn’t seem all that surprised. It’s important to note getting tattoos for the American Idol doesn’t get you votes. Carly Smithson is in the bottom three for American Idol season 7
Kristy Lee Cook was our prediction of who would be going home this week and was the second one to be put on the stools in the bottom three. When Ryan made the announcement Kristy simply smiled and nodded in agreement as if she knew she was on her way out. Obviously she read PopTherpay.com yesterday so today wasn’t such a shock. Kristy Lee Cook voted in the bottom three on American Idol
It looks like we weren’t the only ones that wanted to see Amanda Overmyer leave the show, or at least people wanted the others to stay more. Amanda is just a little too tough for our liking, and just doesn’t seem to ever open up and show any versatility. Amanda Overmyer voted in the bottom three on American Idol

Simon Cowell Does A Good Deed
March 19th, 2008

Simon Cowell Does A Good Deed
Turns out Simon Cowell isn’t such a grinch after all. He’s actually capable of being a very nice guy. He recently donated the sum of $162,000 to the family of a cancer-stricken three-year-old so they could pay off their mortgage.

“They had some financial problems which were relatively easy for me to sort out,” says Cowell about the family of Madelaine Stoen. Madelaine’s parents, Amy and Randy, drive their daughter 100 miles each day from their home in Minnesota for cancer treatments.

When Cowell heard about the situation, he wanted to help as part of Oprah Winfrey’s ‘Big Give’ TV show.

“I didn’t know what to do in this situation other than to do something which I hope will help your situation,” Cowell told Randy and Amy on the show. “I know you are having problems with your mortgage. As of this afternoon, your mortgage has been paid off.”

He told Oprah on the show that he didn’t know that doing a good deed could feel so good.

More stars need to give back like this. Let’s just hope he doesn’t start talking all sweet to the American Idol contestants and giving out hugs instead of insults.
