The Softer Side Of Graffiti: Stash Spray Can Pillows
May 15th, 2008

The Softer Side Of Graffiti
If you’re looking for some cool pop-art type pillows, check out these spray can pillows. They were originally put on display during the “Tools of the Trade” Art Exhibition at the Bape Gallery in 2002. They only recently became available, put out for sale by Stash, a famous New York-based street artist.

The soft spray can replica pillows measure 30” X 10” and come in red, aqua and purple and sell for $100 each. Pretty cool. A great way to express your love of Krylon type paint.

Raku Ceramic Ray Guns Are Awesome

Raku Ceramic Ray Guns Are Awesome
Who would have thought that ceramic ray guns could be so cool. Me from an alternate universe, that’s who. I just met myself from a parallel reality. In that reality, it turns out that ceramic is the hot technology.

They don’t have any weapons that actually work, but people make ceramic ray guns then fire them in the oven. After that they paint on details and later meet in combat. It goes something like this.

Two opponents meet and unholster their ray guns. Each takes a look at the other’s work. “Damn that’s pretty good. You got some kick-ass detail on your piece. Dude, you totally kicked my ass. You win. I knew I should have spent more time on design.” Then they part ways.

Turns out I’m hot-shit over there in that universe. Sad thing is that universe is lame and non-violent. I gave my double a real gun and a camera, then showed him how to introduce his universe to head-shots.

See, now I’ll be the top dude over there AND I’ll have a new reality show. Get it?

Is This Terminator Ad A Rip-Off? NSFW
May 5th, 2008

Hmmm...Interesting
I still can’t decide if I like the new Terminator series. I’m giving it a chance to find it’s legs. But did the Terminator people rip off the work of an artist without giving them credit? That appears to be the case: some blogs are reporting that the Fox channel’s poster was allegedly copied straight from a montage created by someone else before the series was even announced. Surely they wouldn’t do that? Compare the full NSFW images after the jump.

Godfather Art Made From The Entire Script
April 11th, 2008

Don Corleone
I call it Don Corleone & Cat. Most people don’t know that The Don was actually second in command. It was the cat, Mr. Whiskers who gave the orders. He was whacking mice left and right and paying his crew with fish. Humans were made to scoop litter and serve him Fancy Feast day and night. But I digress. This piece of cool art is made from the entire Godfather script using varying shades of black, with a bit of red. A 24″ x 30″ poster will set you back $14, an unsigned giclee (limited edition of 1,000), $100, and a signed giclee (limited edition of 250), $300.

Artist Makes Bead Curtains Into Star Trek Art
March 26th, 2008

Star Trek Art
Bead curtains are not just for 1960’s hippie dens anymore. These are made by artist Devorah Sperber. Kind of like pixel-art in 3D, she slides tens of thousands of beads onto threads to create these detailed geek portraits. This is some retro cool geek awesomeness right here.

Some of her works include the holodeck door, Enterprise-D’s bridge, and her “beaming down” series, which looks like the “real” special effect.

Classic Art Goes Hollywood

Classic Art Goes Hollywood
Ever wonder how some of the classic pieces of art would look if you added celebrities to them? These works of art have been digitally retouched and given a Hollywood makeover with stars like Natalie Portman, Julia Roberts, Scarlett Johansson, Angelina Jolie, Elvis Presley and others.

Somehow they just leave me feeling strangely disturbed. Though I do like the Angelina Jolie. More below.

Tetris Mirror Is Puzzling
March 18th, 2008

Tetris Mirror Is Puzzling
Just in case your home isn’t quite full of retro video game awesomeness, a UK product designer by the name of Soner Ozenc has created this Tetris Mirror.

And let’s face it, unlike me, some of you out there are pretty fugly. A mirror comprised of thirteen interlocking mirrored acrylic panels, might make you look better. Or at least turn your face into many separate parts like a funhouse mirror.

It can be arranged on your wall to form a rectangle, or displayed broken apart as individual puzzle blocks. It would be awesome if it had a high score on top based on who is the most good looking. You know, if your household is competitive AND conceited.
