A Short Visual History Of VideogamesFollow the link for pretty cool short that shows a visual history of nerd consoles. And I’m a big enough nerd to complain about the fact that they totally missed the TurboGrapx 16.

Leonardo DiCaprio To Star As Atari Founder
June 10th, 2008

Atari rules
I have fond memories of Atari growing up and I owe it all to the guy who made it all happen. Nolan Bushnell. Looks like super girlly man Leonardo DiCraprio is set to play the Atari founder in an upcoming biopic. Bushnell may have given us Atari, but he also created Chuck E. Cheese, which he can not be forgiven for.

What the hell. As long as it doesn’t involve Leonardo falling in love on a boat, I’m game.

Space Invaders Crop Circle
May 28th, 2008

Space Invaders Crop Circle
Here at the Therapy, we love all things retro arcade. That of course includes Space Invaders. Check out this mysterious appearance of a Space Invaders crop circle. There are those who believe that aliens built the pyramids and also gave us the atari 2600. I think this proves it.

What is more likely? A group of drunk ass and geeky college kids all jacked up on arcade games and Red Bull? Or aliens warning us to stop shooting at them in our games?

If you’ve ever wanted an NES or Genesis controller belt buckle, you are in luck geeky readers. You can also get SNES, Atari, and NES Advantage styles. They range in price from $30 to $50. Hold your pants up in style while you’re shooting for the high score in a classic game of pocket pinball.

Word of warning: The Atari joystick one makes it look like you have a second retro wang.

Atari 2600 Games I Kind Of Remember
April 28th, 2008

Atari 2600 Games I Kind Of Remember
Check out this great post from the people at Mightygodking.com who claimed to have found a genuine working Atari 2600 at a garage sale, complete with a huge stack of classic games. In reality, it’s a huge post of classic video game artwork that’s been updated with titles and descriptions that more accurately reflect what’s being depicted on the cover. I mean really, how did the artist come up with those over-the-top covers when the games barely featured a few pixelated sprites? It’s pretty amusing.

Space Invaders Coffee Table On Craigslist
March 12th, 2008

Space Invader Coffee Table
Some guy made an awesome Space Invaders coffee table and is now selling it on Craigslist for $450.

Bad stuff can go down when you combine Space Invaders and coffee. Like in the 80’s when I stayed awake for 2 days and beat the high score. When the sun came out on the second day, some guy thought he was helping by leaning against the machine. I was so hopped up on caffeine, I accidentally slammed a quarter through his skull as I let out a girlly scream and then quietly resumed my game. The police thought it best that I stop soon after that.

Space Invaders Underwear
Worlds collide. Your crotch against 8-bit invaders. Try not to soil yourself as you shoot at the alien armada.

These boxer shorts are not going to win you a real live woman, but you won’t need one. Your crotch rocket will be scoring hits on these pixellated aliens with every boner. They are snug-fitting and 95% cotton. They’ll cost you £18 a pair.

Jesus, crotch fun is expensive. The dude pictured is obviously packing a huge missile too. Game over man!

Atari 2600 Super Mario Brothers
February 22nd, 2008

Atari 2600 Super Mario Brothers
Here’s what a Mario game would have looked like if it come out on the Atari 2600 instead of the NES. I have to say it still would have been awesome. This re-imagining of the classic Super Mario Brothers does a pretty good job of simulating what the 2600 version might have been capable of. Video after the jump.
