Get Your Cheap Geek On: All Star Wars Fest Comes to Basic Cable
March 24th, 2008

starwars-spike.jpg

“A few weeks from now on a network buried in basic cable…”

Star Wars fans too cheap to rent the entire saga on DVD get ready: Spike TV is bringing all six movies to the small screen in a Vader loving, lightsaber swinging event stemming many hours of your short life in April.

Spike TV said it will air the complete Star Wars Saga starting Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6, and Friday, April 11 through Sunday, April 13. It will include the broadcast premiere of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and the basic cable premieres of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.

This will apparently mark the first time all six movies are being presented together on basic cable on the same network. All six are “digitally re-mastered versions of the films, shown uncut and presented in HD where available.” Lots of extra Star Wars material will be thrown in, giving all of you Princess Leia fanatics something to once again dream of.

South Park’s Imaginationland Gives Us Nightmares
March 6th, 2008

South Park, is well, South Park. Love it or hate it you can’t help but admire how it has become a part of our pop culture. The good folks at Comedy Central keep milking this cow for all it is worth and now have plans for a new DVD release called South Park’s Imaginationland on March 11.

Now I think it is better to just let the good Comedy Central folk outline the plot:

In this uncensored, never-before-seen director’s cut, the doors of the world’s imagination are thrown wide open and the boys of South Park are transported to a magical realm in their greatest odyssey ever. Stan, Kyle, and Butters find themselves in Imaginationland just as terrorists launch an attack that unleashes all of mankind’s most evil characters imaginable. With the world’s imaginations spinning out of control, the government prepares to nuke Imaginationland to put an end to the chaos. Racing against time to prevent nuclear annihilation, the citizens of Imaginationland realize their only hope of salvation lies with the unlikeliest of heroes: Butters. Ignoring the impending apocalypse, Cartman goes all the way to the Supreme Court to get justice for his case of dry balls.

There - now go make yourself useful and blow a fart or something.

Indiana Jones Overload: New Special Edition DVDs
March 4th, 2008

jones-dvds.jpgIndiana Jones fans have lots of reasons to enjoy 2008. Not only is there a new trailer for the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull movie but now we also have new special editions of the first three movies to look forward to on DVD come May 13.

Lucasfilm and Paramount plans to release Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade both as standalone special edition DVDs and also as part of a boxed set. All three have been originally restored and remastered and the discs will include bonus features which “rovide never-before-seen explorations of the making of these classic movies and showcase the characters, action and extraordinary visual effects that have made the movies indelible cinematic treasures.”

Now what would be really cool is if Lucas does a Indiana Jones marathon whereby you can watch all four movies back back. How sweet would that be?

Under the Sea 3D: Not Quite Beowulf Jolie 3D Hotness
February 7th, 2008

imax-fish-movie.jpgIMAX is one of those movie going pleasures we here at PopTherapy do whenever we can. Nothing says tough guys like watching Beowulf kicking ass and checking out a nearly naked Angelina Jolie slither around the screen. You can now translate that 3D lust into fishes as IMAX and Warner Bros. get set to take us Under the Sea 3D.

This fish documentary is being shot in the waters around Papua, New Guinea, and is set for release in February 2009. It is the sort-of sequel to Deep Sea 3D, which IMAX says raked in over $60 million worldwide.

Under the Sea 3D, besides showing off lots of cool fish in 3D, will also carry a warm and fuzzy message about the evils of global warming. The film is being shot by director Howard Hall and company.

New Improved Jackass 2.5 Movie
January 8th, 2008

Jackass 2.5Watching Jackass puts a smile on my face and makes me happy. Perhaps it is because I’m thankful that these guys aren’t my real friends and I don’t have to always be worrying about taking a shot to the groin when I’m not ready.

We covered the original online release of Jackass 2.5 and we are back again to announce a new streaming version of the film on JackassWorld.com. This version is embeddable and easier to use (you can rewind, pause, fast forward, etc). Just when I thought Jackass couldn’t possibly get any better.

Jackass 2.5 consists of footage that wasn’t used in the feature but was still every bit as unbelievable and nasty as its predecessors. Take some time out of your busy day and check out these never-before-seen pranks, stunts, and random acts of behind-the-scenes mischief and stupidity.

Thanks Lina!

More Jackass coming your way
December 14th, 2007

jackass.jpgIf you are a fan of Johnny Knoxville and his troupe of prank-making idiots then we have good news for you today. “Jackass 2.5″ has been announced and get this, you will be able to watch it before the end of this month if you so desire. However, unlike the first two “Jackass” movies you won’t be watching the latest round of ball-busting stunts in a movie theater. Instead Paramount Pictures is doing the smart thing and releasing the movie on the internet for paid download. This is the first time that a major motion pciture release has been done like this and it’s going to be an experiment to see if Hollywood can make money off of movies online.

Here is how it will work: “Jackass 2.5″ will be free to watch starting December 19th and through until the 31st at jackassworld.com. The day after Christmas you can buy the DVD from the website or at your local video store or go rent it from Blockbuster. If you want to pay for it after the 31st you can do so at iTunes, Amazon.com and other to be announced websites.

“Jackass 2.5″ will feature stunts that didn’t make it into the second movie as well as new stuff filmed especially for this show. Considering how cheap it must be for the movie people to make one of these films we at PopTherapy believe that about 15 minutes after the show goes online Paramount will have already made a profit. If the movie studio does make money we can expect to see more of these kind of releases happen — which we suppose is a good thing if Knoxville, Steve-O and the rest of the boys want to keep busting their nuts well into their old age.
