Joaquin PhoenixJoaquin Phoenix surprised everyone at a benefit for Paul Newman’s camps for kids Monday, announcing his plans to quit acting.

“I want to take this opportunity … to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor,” the two-time Oscar nominee told Extra at the San Francisco event. “I’m not doing films anymore.”

Eddie Murphy Done With Movies
July 2nd, 2008

Eddie MurphyEddie Murphy says he’s going to retire from the movie business. About time too because he hasn’t been funny in decades. Murphy is appearing in a highly publicized movie called Meet Dave opening July 11. There was talk of a fourth Beverly Hills Cop, but that has been shot down because the script just isn’t right. The script isn’t right because Eddie sucks.

Clint Wants Spike Lee To STFU
June 6th, 2008

Clint
Clint Eastwood wants Spike Lee to shut up after Spike complained to a Cannes Film Festival panel of the lack of black soldiers in Eastwood’s recent World War II movies.

Eastwood rejected the ludicrous complaints and basically said that Lee needs to stop whining to the panel like a spoiled brat. He explained it so Spike can hopefully get it through his head:

“Flags of Our Fathers” and “Letters From Iwo Jima,” both from 2006, explaining that the black troops that did take part in the 1945 battle were assigned to munitions units and had no part in the flag-raising moment that is the focus of “Flags.”

Then he laid the smack down:

“The story is ‘Flags of Our Fathers,’ the famous flag-raising picture, and they didn’t do that. If I go ahead and put an African-American actor in there, people’d go: ‘This guy’s lost his mind.’ I mean, it’s not accurate.” Referring to Lee, he added: “A guy like him should shut his face.”

Eastwood made it clear that it will not compromise the facts in his movies historically. So stop whining and go make a movie Spikey.

Get Your Cheap Geek On: All Star Wars Fest Comes to Basic Cable
March 24th, 2008

starwars-spike.jpg

“A few weeks from now on a network buried in basic cable…”

Star Wars fans too cheap to rent the entire saga on DVD get ready: Spike TV is bringing all six movies to the small screen in a Vader loving, lightsaber swinging event stemming many hours of your short life in April.

Spike TV said it will air the complete Star Wars Saga starting Friday, April 4 through Sunday, April 6, and Friday, April 11 through Sunday, April 13. It will include the broadcast premiere of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and the basic cable premieres of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones.

This will apparently mark the first time all six movies are being presented together on basic cable on the same network. All six are “digitally re-mastered versions of the films, shown uncut and presented in HD where available.” Lots of extra Star Wars material will be thrown in, giving all of you Princess Leia fanatics something to once again dream of.

South Park’s Imaginationland Gives Us Nightmares
March 6th, 2008

South Park, is well, South Park. Love it or hate it you can’t help but admire how it has become a part of our pop culture. The good folks at Comedy Central keep milking this cow for all it is worth and now have plans for a new DVD release called South Park’s Imaginationland on March 11.

Now I think it is better to just let the good Comedy Central folk outline the plot:

In this uncensored, never-before-seen director’s cut, the doors of the world’s imagination are thrown wide open and the boys of South Park are transported to a magical realm in their greatest odyssey ever. Stan, Kyle, and Butters find themselves in Imaginationland just as terrorists launch an attack that unleashes all of mankind’s most evil characters imaginable. With the world’s imaginations spinning out of control, the government prepares to nuke Imaginationland to put an end to the chaos. Racing against time to prevent nuclear annihilation, the citizens of Imaginationland realize their only hope of salvation lies with the unlikeliest of heroes: Butters. Ignoring the impending apocalypse, Cartman goes all the way to the Supreme Court to get justice for his case of dry balls.

There – now go make yourself useful and blow a fart or something.

Indiana Jones Overload: New Special Edition DVDs
March 4th, 2008

jones-dvds.jpgIndiana Jones fans have lots of reasons to enjoy 2008. Not only is there a new trailer for the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull movie but now we also have new special editions of the first three movies to look forward to on DVD come May 13.

Lucasfilm and Paramount plans to release Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade both as standalone special edition DVDs and also as part of a boxed set. All three have been originally restored and remastered and the discs will include bonus features which “rovide never-before-seen explorations of the making of these classic movies and showcase the characters, action and extraordinary visual effects that have made the movies indelible cinematic treasures.”

Now what would be really cool is if Lucas does a Indiana Jones marathon whereby you can watch all four movies back back. How sweet would that be?
