Space Invaders On Nintendo Wii: It’s Payback Time
April 13th, 2008

Space Invaders are back!
The boffins over at Taito Japan are revamping the Space Invaders game with a new twist on the classic. This time, you’re not on defense, instead you get to control the invaders yourself and serve up some Alien pay back.

Space Invaders Get Even puts you in command of up to 300 individual pixelated aliens using the Wii-mote and Nunchuk controllers. With the Nunchuck, you direct a UFO to drop hundreds of aliens on forest, city and military targets, destroying everything in sight. You’ll be able to command the invaders to swarm and group in a variety of attack formations.

Looks pretty awesome if you ask me. I hope the Space Invader aliens don’t team up with the Galaga aliens.

Dexter Video Game in the Works
March 5th, 2008

Dexter Video GameWho wants to be a serial killer? According to Hollywood Reporter, Showtime will be turning its bloody serial-killer drama “Dexter” into a video game.

The game is being designed for multiple platforms, including the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360, and will be aimed at gamers and fans of the Showtime series.

The Showtime series focuses on Dexter Morgan, a serial killer who chops up his victims and then expertly destroys all the evidence. The twist is that Dexter only kills those whom he believes “deserved to die”. That sounds like the recipe for a hit video game to me.

Dexter is in it’s second season on Showtime. Dexter season 1 is currently airing on CBS.

Vegas As Your Virtual Playground
February 6th, 2008

vegas-midway.jpg

You want to own Vegas, baby? Maybe do a little old school action with fists and blood? Video game developer Midway Games bets you want to, having just announced “This is Vegas” for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC later this year.

What’s really cool is that Midway describes this title as “open world,” meaning you should be able to wander the Strip at your leisure to gamble and party till dawn. There is of course a storyline here for this title, developed by an internal Midway studio:

“When a powerful businessman begins turning Vegas into a family-friendly tourist trap, you must start your own powerful empire and resurrect the famous adult playground. Party hard at the hottest clubs to make VIP connections. Grow your bankroll by hitting high stakes tables. Race the fastest cars on the underground circuit to raise your reputation. Fight off enemies with fists and firearms to prove your strength. Where you go and what you do is your call whether counting cards, seducing dangerous women, cruising the strip or starting bar brawls, you must put the sin back in sin city.”

Lots of Orcs and Dwarves running around WoW
January 23rd, 2008

wow-masses.jpgIf you are one of the many throngs of Dwarves, Orcs or other fantasy creatures running around the online MMPORG World of Warcraft, you probably will notice at times it gets a little crowded. It’s not a mirage - there are a lot of you out there - 10 million+ to be precise.

That’s right - Blizzard Entertainment is now hosting 10 million+ subscribers worldwide (2 million+ Europe, 2.5 million+ North America, 5.5 million+ Asia). There’s no specific word on which race is most popular, but we are hoping for the Orcs ourselves.

And, by the way you Russian readers, worry not - a Russian language version of WoW is in development and set for release later this year. Something else to get you through those cold Siberian winters.
